QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Bay Pawz Dog Grooming Services, Herne Bay

I know that letting someone else take care of your pet can be difficult. To make the process a little easier, I’ve put together some of the questions I’m frequently asked. If there’s something I’ve missed, just reach out and I’ll do my best to help.

Blow Drying

My dog is nervous and anxious, can you groom them?

Yes I will take the groom slowly and ensure your dog is as comfortable as possible.

My dog is old and can not stand for long periods, would you groom them?

Yes I will take the groom slowly and ensure your dog is as comfortable as possible.

Do you do Anal glands?

No I do not express anal glands as it is best to be done by a veterinarian in case of infection.

My dog is in season, can you still groom?

If your dog will be in season for their groom, please let me know so I can ensure that there will be no other dogs in the salon.

Dog Grooming Tools

My dog has fleas, can you still groom?

If your dog has fleas, please let me know so I can ensure that there are no other dogs in the salon and after your appointment, in order to thoroughly clean and treat the salon before any other dog comes in. Your appointment may change to accomodate this.

My dog has skin allergies, how will you deal with this?

I will use a hypoallergenic shampoo such as a mild puppy shampoo, or can use medicated prescribed shampoo provided by yourselfif required.

What is the best brush to use as even though I brush they still get mats?

A slicker brush that is flexible is best and a metal comb. Ensuring that you brush to the skin and not halfway through the coat to catch all mats. Go over the coat with metal comb again making sure to get to the skin. Change direction of the comb to catch any smaller mats under the coat.

What is the best grooming frequency for my dog?

Frequency is dependant on the type of coat and how well it can be managed between grooms. However on average most breeds have a 4-12 week frequency and can benefit from an in-between groom bath.

Do you clip my dogs nails?

Yes, providing your dog is willing to allow to be clipped without becoming stressed or aggressive

Are there any other dogs in the salon?

There maybe times when your dog will not be the only dog in the salon, however the dogs will not interact

Dog Grooming

Do I stay or leave my dog?

How long will the groom take?

Most grooms take an hour to an hour and half, larger dogs may take 2hrs to 2 & half hours.

There is around 2 weeks wait for an appointment however we do have reschedules occasionally which frees up appointments sooner,

If you leave your dog with me as if you stay they will look to you for reassurance and I need to gain your dogs trust. They will receive lots of praise and cuddles (And if ok some treats for being a good girl or boy!)

How long is your waiting list?

Your puppy can be groomed 2 weeks after their second vaccination. We would do an introduction to the salon, a bath, blow-dry and general tidy .

I have a new puppy, when can I get groomed?

I can take either card payment or cash.

Do you take card payments?

Yes your more than welcome to pre-book appointments for the year.

Can I book appointments in advance for the year?

Yes your welcome to bring in your own dog's treats

Can I bring my dog's own treats?
